Our Practicums

Preparing students for real-world ministry.

At Heritage College & Seminary, we believe ministry preparation must go beyond the classroom. Students need more than strong biblical knowledge. They need to learn how to shepherd people, serve faithfully, lead with humility, respond to complexity, and apply truth with wisdom in the life of the Church and the world around them. That is why practical ministry formation, rooted in partnership with churches and ministry organizations, is an important and growing priority at Heritage. Through our practicums, students have the opportunity to connect their academic learning with meaningful ministry experience – growing in character, confidence, and readiness as they prepare for life and leadership beyond graduation.

Formed through relationship, practice, and accountability

Ministry is not learned in isolation. It is formed through relationships and strengthened through faithful feedback. Heritage practicums place students in local churches and ministry contexts where they can serve alongside experienced leaders, observe ministry in action, and grow through hands-on experience. These placements are designed to help students integrate what they are learning in the classroom with the real demands, responsibilities, and joys of ministry life. Through supervision and mentoring students are encouraged to grow not only in what they know, but in who they are becoming as servants of Christ.

A growing emphasis on ministry readiness

Heritage is placing an increasing emphasis on practicums as a vital part of preparing students for faithful ministry. This reflects a clear conviction: graduates should be equipped not only to understand Scripture and theology deeply, but to serve the Church with wisdom, maturity, and practical readiness.

As Heritage continues to strengthen and develop its practicum experiences, the goal is to provide students with opportunities to:

  • Apply classroom learning in real ministry settings
  • Serve under the guidance of experienced ministry leaders
  • Receive meaningful supervision, feedback, and encouragement
  • Grow in clarity around calling, gifting, and vocational direction
  • Develop confidence in navigating the realities of ministry
  • Be formed in character, humility, and dependence on Christ
