Jeremy Johnston

Professor of English

Jeremy W. Johnston serves as Adjunct Professor of English at Heritage College & Seminary. His teaching focuses on literature, rhetoric, and communication, equipping students to read, write, and think with clarity and depth within a Christian worldview.

Through his teaching and writing, Jeremy seeks to help students engage the great works of literature and culture thoughtfully, integrating faith, imagination, and intellectual rigor in service of the Church and society.

  • English language and literature (Anglo-Saxon and medieval literature: Beowulf; English poetry: Donne, Herbert, Bradstreet, Rossetti, Keats; and Japanese poetry)
  • World and Comparative literature (Homer, Virgil, Dante’s Divine Comedy, and epic literature)
  • Twentieth-century writers and thinkers such as C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, G.K. Chesterton, Francis Schaeffer, and Dorothy Sayers

Ministry Experience

Jeremy W. Johnston has served in teaching and church ministry contexts, including:

  • Over 20 years of experience as an educator in secondary and post-secondary contexts
  • Columnist for Christianity and the Arts in Barnabas magazine (10+ years)
  • Service as a lay elder at Pilgrim Baptist Fellowship
  • Involvement in Christian education within the local church
  • Itinerant preacher

His work reflects a commitment to integrating faith and literature, cultivating thoughtful engagement with culture, and equipping students to communicate with clarity and conviction.

Awards

  • Teaching Excellence Award: Faculty of Education Student Council, Althouse College (Awarded for Excellence in Teaching;
  • Honored as Top Intermediate-Senior Educator in graduating class by faculty, associate teachers and peers in 2002)
